Nia Walker
2021 Science Envoy
Nia Walker is a PhD candidate in Biology at Stanford University, studying under the mentorship of Stephen Palumbi at Hopkins Marine Station. Her dissertation research focus is on identifying and challenging what makes “strong” corals resilient by studying coral thermal resistance and recovery. She addresses these questions primarily using genomics, genetics, cellular biology, and physiology techniques. Nia is interested in better understanding how cnidarians (e.g. corals, sea anemones, and jellyfish) and other organisms can function under normal and high stress conditions.
