Leslie Koyama

Wonderfest Science Envoy 2019

Leslie Koyama is a graduate student in the Department of Developmental Biology at Stanford University. She dissects and studies fruit fly intestines which have the amazing ability to grow up to four times their original size in response to a nutritious diet. In particular, she is interested in how stem cells regulate this amazing growth process, and she uses cool microscopy techniques to study stem cell behaviors. Leslie is also passionate about art and is interested in how scientists can use art to tell the story of their science in visually compelling ways. Leslie was recommended to the Science Envoy Program by Stanford biologist, Lucy O’Brien.
