Kevin Aris was born and raised in Gainesville, FL, where he also went to college at the University of Florida. His interest in science was fostered throughout his life with his family, hobbies, and favorite TV shows and movies. A keen interest in the physical sciences led him to study physics and biology at UF, where he also worked in the LIGO lab group studying gravitational physics. Kevin then joined the biophysics program at Stanford for his PhD, where he uses high resolution microscopy techniques to do single molecule experiments with CRISPR endonucleases. Throughout his scientific career, Kevin has participated in a variety of science outreach programs, and he continues to be motivated to find new and creative ways to make science accessible.
