Ari Ball-Burack – 2024 Wonderfest Science Envoy

Ari Ball-Burack is a first-year PhD student at UC Berkeley’s Energy and Resources Group. He studies climate and energy policy decision support with emphases on computational modeling tools, justice and equity, and positive socio-economic tipping points. He was previously a researcher at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability leadership, where he led the Prince of Wales Global Sustainability Fellowship in Radical Innovation and Disruption and researched pathways for a rapid global energy transition. He holds MPhils in Advanced Computer Science and Environmental Policy from Cambridge, where he studied bias and fairness in artificial intelligence and UK power sector decarbonization, and a BA from Williams College in physics and computer science. In his free time, he loves being in the mountains with his backpacking guitar.
