Sergiy Vasylyev is a third-year graduate student at the University of California at Berkeley in the Astronomy Department. He works with Alex Filippenko on supernova explosions and compact objects. His current research involves using polarized light from supernovae to infer the geometry of the explosion and its environment. Originally from Ukraine, he moved to the US with his family to seek better opportunities. His hobbies include surfing, ballroom dancing, and soccer.
