Sean Waterton – 2024 Wonderfest Science Envoy

Sean Waterton was raised in Alexandria, VA. His interest in science was piqued in high school by a particularly enthusiastic chemistry teacher, Dr. Ashley Jones. He went to college to study chemistry at Cornell University, where he also competed for their men’s track and field team. Sean followed-up his undergraduate studies by completing a master’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at Georgetown University, then spending two years as an MIT research technician developing a novel single cell RNA sequencing technique. Currently, Sean is a PhD candidate in the biology program at Stanford, where he is developing pathways to synthesize useful biological molecules from electricity and CO2.
