The Kepler Team and SETI Institute have paired up to commemorate Sagan's Birthday on November 9th by sponsoring a public essay contest focusing on the allegory of The Shore of the Cosmic Ocean that formed the basis of one of Sagan's more well-known Cosmos series episodes. The winning essay will be published at http://kepler.nasa.gov/education/sagan on November 9th together with a contribution from a special surprise guest. In addition, one essay will be published each day of the week leading up to November 9th together with contributions from Kepler and SETI scientists as well as invited guests. Two of these contributors are past Sagan Prize recipients. We invite the public to join us this week as we reflect on the future of humanity as explorers of the Cosmic Ocean.
